A strike call is given from the university staff pensioners on deducting pension. Students are also with them, and they are supporting their teachers with heart and soul; however, Raj Jethwa, chief executive of UCEA, shows disappointment in students’ involvement. According to UCU, which stands for the university and College Union, many workers have supported the pensioners via banners and play cards.
University staff said they had just recorded their protest at a very low level. In this way, students will suffer a little. This 10 days is a small part of the 21 days protest plan. In this complaint campaign, approximately 44 universities will take part, which is assumed to get bigger in a circle when other 68 universities get involved in the next phase of the protest.
Jo Grady, UCU general secretary, said they were standing for their rights, and the university management could have avoided this protest, but they took no proper steps.
This dispute focuses on the management and (USS) financing of the Universities Superannuation Scheme, the most significant private pension scheme responsible for offering pensions. Apart from the increase in allowance, they are also demanding to handle the workload.
The power of speech is not just raised this year. It was presented in 2019 also in which 60 universities took part, which continued till 2020. But unfortunately, a wave of Covid took this voice but is now elevated with great passion.
