The emphasis of Darron Thomas’s concentration is continuing to pursue his musical profession in order to build his already strong foundation even further than it is already. Darron Thomas or DT has his sights set on the prize and realizes that in order to be successful, diversity is key. In the audience, he is motivated constantly in the thought of making a difference not just in Dallas, Texas, but also outside of Dallas.
Where are you from?
Born in Greenville, TX, but moved to Dallas in the 4th grade. DISD product. Kramer, Franklin, then Hillcrest. Joined the Navy and was stationed in San Diego, CA for four years while fighting in the Operation Enduring Freedom war. Salute to all I had the pleasure to defend this country
Give Three qualities that describe you:
Three qualities that describe me would be driven because of the fact that I still find myself doing something with music. We all get frustrated with how things go especially when you believe in something so much but have a hard time being in the right place at the right time. The time, energy, resources, blood, sweat, and tears spent cannot be wasted. There are billions of dollars’ worth of ideas in the cemetery because some people gave up and stopped believing in themselves.
Another quality that describes me is diversse. Being a diverse individual, growing up on Fair Oaks and Park Lane has allowed the ease of being able to network with any and anyone. We may all look different on the outside, maybe speak different languages, and eat different foods, but at the end of the day, we are all human. No one is better than anyone in my eyes, and that is how everyone is approached.
Disciplined would be the final characteristic used to describe me. Grew up with a mother who served in the Army during Desert Storm. While she was away grandmother and great grandmother provided a lot of discipline. This discipline became beneficial while serving in the Navy. The discipline became handy while getting my Master’s degree in Psychology after the military. Therefore, there is no choice but to be disciplined when it comes to creating music. So there you have it, Driven, Diverse, and Disciplined. Triple D baby.
What is it creatively that you are working on?
Right now production, production, and more production. Making as many beats as possible. Constantly challenging myself, and pushing the box with samples and sounds that are used. There is no expiration date on music. What was hot in the ’50s could be sampled in 2022 and have the same effect that it did 72 years ago. If it sounds good, we’re going to see what we can do with it. Minus that, just networking looking for an artist who is hungry and wants to see their dreams come true. I feel like a recruiter for the military when out looking for undiscovered talent.
What is inspiring you right now consistently to work on your endeavors?
Providing my family with the life that they deserve. A stable and supportive home for my family. A backyard for my wife to be able to have a garden so she does her thing because that is what brings her happiness. Seeing them happy is what pushes me to continue until we get there.
How have you overcome struggles to be where you are now?
We have all overcome struggles in life. My struggles are no greater than the next individual, so we like to leave the struggles in the past because everything is looking up now. The future is bright.
What piece of advice do you want others to take back from the work you display?
Being yourself and being original is okay. It is okay to be you, and like what you like. Pleasing others is so dead. Do what makes you happy. Forget what everyone thinks. For one time in your life, do you. When people hear my beats, they should be able to hear no boundaries. They should be able to hear the lines being crossed. Their minds should be confused at first because what is happening is not supposed to be happening. All because I finally decided to please myself and not others.
As a business owner, what are some obstacles have you had to overcome to get where you are at?
The only obstacle in any business is the person looking in the mirror. When that person decides to give up, then the business is over and done.
What do you have coming up right now that you want others to know about?
Looking forward to hearing these talented artists on my production this year. Working with a few artists that I have networked with around the DFW metroplex. So when the artist starts putting out the music is when we all get to hear the beats. 2022 is going to be a very positive and productive year, but strongly believe that 2023 is when we will the rewards from all the hard work put in.
Who were the most influential people in your life?
I have already spoken on them, but my family most definitely has been the most influential in my life. From the family who helped raised me to the family that I am now raising. Good and the bad, it is all love, and we are all going to eat.
