Dakota LaTommy or MdntLaTommy (Midnight La Tommy) as some would call him, is a musical artist from Kentucky now residing in Texas. He stays devoted and works hard on his craft to make sure he makes noise on the scene. To become more serious and dedicated to his work and proving others wrong remains a goal for MdntLaTommy and he is on the right track to doing so. “I’m currently putting finishing touches on a mixtape and also planning a weekly drop series, called “LaTommy Tuesdays” starting sometime soon. There’s going to be virtual concerts from my apartment with guests, virtual concerts at venues, weekly music/EPs/etc. so it’s going to be a really good opportunity for me to focus in and see how consistent I can actually be when I apply myself.” Innovative, charismatic, and a futurist, MdntLaTommy is a well-rounded rapper who refuses to give up even when things don’t go as planned. He wants to keep moving forward and use his music to do good things.
MdntLaTommy understands the importance of being faithful and steadfast on his journey and remained successful through his endeavors. Because of the COVID-19 outbreak, a large number of large-scale events, such as concerts and festivals, were prohibited in the year 2021. This was due to the limits imposed by both the city and the federal government on the movement of people. Therefore, the number of opportunities for artists to demonstrate their abilities has been drastically reduced.
As a musical artist, MdntLaTommy is currently concentrating on expanding upon his already solid base and making it even stronger. Successful individuals make investments in themselves as well as diversly in others who will assist them on their path to success. MdntLaTommy is aware of this. “I have a project, a mixtape, called Chaotica dropping in early April. It’s going to be 8 or 9 songs. I really want people to listen to it and really think to themselves how they evaluate it musically as a whole. Where I’m from, there’s nobody who’s really, truly MADE IT. There are some people with motion but the closest thing we have is Jack Harlow from Louisville and that’s like 2 hours away. I want everyone who knows me back home, every artist of quality, to listen to this project and decide whether or not they believe they want to be a part of this early- or never. Nobody has made it, we’re all working, always remember that.”
Where are you from?
I am originally from South-Central Kentucky. I won’t even say where specifically because nobody would know where it’s at, but it’s roughly 40 minutes north of Nashville, Tennessee.
What is inspiring you right now consistently to work on your endeavors?
My family and my desire to be controlled by as few influences as possible. I feel that if the highest caliber of living is available to us for the taking by some type of means, that there is no reason that we should not enjoy it. We come from a humble place and most of my family is happy like that, but they’ve had that for 50+ years, and now I’m here so- it’s time for them to spend the remainder of their lives in luxury.
When you control your schedule and your time inventory, and you also own your means of wealth, you aren’t controlled by anything. No man, material, or force can make you do anything when you own those things because at the end of the day you will always be able to provide.
How have you overcome struggles to be where you are now?
Liquor (jokingly). No but actually a lot of prayer. I function at my highest when I am consistent in prayer, and I’ve noticed that things really start to fall apart when I don’t consistently talk to God.
What piece of advice do you want others to take back from the work you display?
That you really don’t have to 100% “know” what you’re doing to make something musical. If you know what a good song sounds like, all you have to do is keep tuning something until it sounds how you want it. When I first started producing, it would sometimes take me two weeks to finish a beat because I didn’t have the skillset to make it sound how it did in my head. If you take the time and sit with something long enough it’s difficult to not at least be close.
Who were the most influential people in your life?
Definitely my mother, my grandfather, and my aunt. They raised me. My grandfather introduced me to creative thinking at a very young age. He used to sing and draw and do all sorts of artistic things. I truly believe that he sparked my musical interest at a very young age.
MdntLaTommy’s goal is to make people want to see more of him, which he has done already in the studio and on stage. By putting in the hours of work, commitment, and inspiration both in front of and behind the scenes in the year 2022, he makes a difference in the music business. Certain Influential people in his life had a major impact. “Definitely my mother, my grandfather, and my aunt. They raised me. My grandfather introduced me to creative thinking at a very young age. He used to sing and draw and do all sorts of artistic things. I truly believe that he sparked my musical interest at a very young age.”
Even though MdntLaTommy is devoted to perfecting the art of his music to the highest level, his hardships have made him want to do even better in his business as well. “Learning that it doesn’t matter how good the product is if you aren’t doing the work to get people to hear it. I know for a fact I’m better than most artists, and I respect all artists, but I’ve just been doing this too long to not be. Where I lack is in the consistency and execution department. So, I still have a long way to go until I’m where I want to be- but my awareness of this shortcoming is a step in the right direction.”
