Red Hook, Brooklyn: To protest the unauthorised usage of vehicles, more than 100 dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles were lined up and demolished by a bulldozer. It is unlawful to ride dirt bikes and ATVs on urban roads because they are made for gravel roads only.
“They are not only a nuisance and an annoyance to us, but they are extremely dangerous and we know that. We see them all the time and we hear them all time at night. They will be crushed today, so they can never terrorise our city again “— Eric Adams, Mayor of New York City
They were just a few of the 2,000 unlicensed automobiles that the New York Police Department (NYPD) has confiscated this year as part of Mayor Eric Adams’ commitment to getting rid of the “nuisance” in the town.
These vehicles were playing a dangerous role in the lifestyle of New York citizens as well as the people who insisted on running to the sidewalks, parks, housing development areas, etc. the officials have time to time made such efforts to put an end to public safety issues.
Hotlines and other services have also been introduced to minimize this problem as hundreds of people have reportedly been fatally injured and even died using these dirt bikes and ATVs.
