Spoiler warning: this article discusses events from One Piece chapters 990 to 992.
One of the most satisfying moments of the Onigashima raid came when the mink leaders Inuarashi and Nekomamushi finally got revenge on Jack the Drought, the Beast Pirates All-Star responsible for the brutal attack on Zou. Here is how it happened and how it set up chapter 992.
Who Is Jack?
Jack is one of Kaido’s three All-Stars, the strongest officers in the Beast Pirates. Before the Wano arc, he led the assault on Zou, the home of the minks, injuring many of its people while searching for Raizo of the Red Scabbards. That attack made the fight on Onigashima deeply personal for the mink leaders.
The Power of Sulong
Minks can enter a powerful state called Sulong when they look at a full moon. Their fur turns white, and their speed and strength increase dramatically, at the cost of being harder to control. On the rooftop of Onigashima, Inuarashi and Nekomamushi used Sulong to overwhelm Jack and finally bring him down.
Other Key Events
- X Drake’s offer: Drake asked to join forces with the Straw Hats. Some of the crew rejected him at first, but the situation changed quickly.
- Apoo attacks: Scratchmen Apoo struck at Zoro and Drake, forcing the two to fight him together.
- The Red Scabbards vs Kaido: the remaining samurai faced Kaido directly, ready to give everything for Oden’s dream.
Looking Ahead to Chapter 992
With Jack down, fans wondered whether the Red Scabbards could truly hurt a Yonko and when Luffy would reach the top of the Skull Dome to join the fight. Chapter 992 also brought the reveal that Drake was secretly working for the Marines, changing his role in the battle.
