Los Angeles marked the 75th Anniversary of the US air force by a “five-ship formation” before Super Bowl LVI. This formation was a rare sight to watch. The flyover above the SoFi Stadium had been done by five aircraft flying in five-ship formation. These planes are from different Air force bases in different states. The participating planes included F-35, F-2A, A-10C, P-51, and F-16.According to the Air Force, 1,000 flyovers are performed annually to show the skills and strength of the US air force. Moreover, the Air Force spokesperson added that the flyovers do not suffer any added costs to taxpayers; it gives them a great experience and exposure.
Major Wolfe, the commander of F-35A, was the pilot of the F-35 as part of a Heritage Flight at the Super Bowl. He has been serving the air force for more than a decade. He took this experience as excitement and a challenge because he had not done this before. The most notable and exciting thing in this formation was the use of all different airplanes, which have different airspeeds and dissimilar wingspan, different lengths but at the same time complex. Thus making this formation look symmetrical and upright is challenging in itself.
Furthermore, the challenge is to nail the timing for a flyover is a tough job. This performance shows not only their skills but their patriotism too. This formation will surely be an unforgettable event for the new generation.
