Ford has announced a brand new 2022 version of the Mondeo saloon, and this had been confirmed that buyers in the United Kingdom and Europe could not have access, as the model will not go on sale in the UK, in Europe, or the USA. There was a time when Mondeo was a primary Ford seller in Europe and the United Kingdom. In recent years, buyers have switched to SUV replacements leading to a significant drop in sales.
As a result, Ford announced last year that it would stop selling the Mondeo in Europe. The Mondeo is more prevalent in China than in the rest of the world. That’s why the new version of this long-lived family car will be sold only in China by the end of this year.
Therefore, the fifth-generation Mondeo’s design language is planned to be showcased in China; the brand’s new vehicle was only developed for the Chinese market. Not much has been revealed, but the expected performance of Ford is a 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter petrol unit having a power of 238 hp.
In Shanghai, Ford’s China Design Centre has designed the car precisely for Chinese clients. Maurizio Tocco, Ford’s chief designer, said that it was an honor and a challenge for them to create a next-generation model such as Mondeo. When the production of the European model finishes in March, the output of the new Mondeo will soon start in Chongqing, China.
