According to the memorandum that Sweden, Finland, and Turkey signed on Tuesday in Madrid, Sweden has agreed to extradite 73 individuals to Turkey. This is according to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The annual NATO summit has just wrapped up in Madrid, and talks there have mostly focused on the war in Ukraine in the wake of the Russian invasion, France and USA showed solidarity with Ukraine by promising military aid. One of the key agreements was to allow Finland and Sweeden to join. It was Turkey that initially held up their request, but a deal was reached on the extradition of Kurdish militants to Turkey
“The memorandum that we have signed all together is a beacon that shows that Turkey’s concerns have been listened to. No doubt this memorandum is a diplomatic triumph that was accomplished after a very long time of negotiations. With the trilateral memorandum, we are going to observe full cooperation in fighting PPK and its affiliates. We will be fighting against all forms of terrorism.” — Tayyip Erdogan
Kurds felt safe in Turkey as they could give their opinions freely on Turkey from there. There is no knowing who is on the list of Kurdish handover to Turkey. It’s been a tough week for Sweden Kurds. Turkey has been threatening to VETO Sweden’s membership if it doesn’t honor the deal of extradition
In compliance with the European Convention on Extradition, Sweden and Finland will respond to Turkey’s outstanding extradition demands of suspected terrorists.
