Following a car incident earlier this week that left her vehicle engulfed in flames, the family of US actress Anne Heche has indicated they do not expect her to survive.
She is still in a coma, and doctors have diagnosed her with what they call “a serious anoxic brain injury.”
Also, “we want to thank the committed staff and great nurses” for “warm wishes and prayers for Anne’s recovery.”
Last week, in Los Angeles, her car collided with a two-story house.
On Friday, police reported that early blood tests showed the presence of narcotics in her system; however, more testing was required to rule out any medicines supplied in hospital.
According to PA news agency, the Los Angeles Police Department is treating the crash as if it were related to a criminal DUI.
Donnie Brasco, Cedar Rapids, and the 1998 version of Psycho all featured the 53-year-old mother of two.
Heche also made an appearance on the American version of Strictly Come Dancing, Dancing with the Stars.
Moreover, she and Ellen DeGeneres, a popular US talk show personality, were previously a couple.
After being driven 30 feet (9.1 metres) into a two-story residence, Heche’s vehicle “erupted in intense fire,” according to the Los Angeles Fire Department, rendering the building “uninhabitable.”
Her family released a statement saying she is on life support at the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills Hospital while they assess the viability of her organs for donation because they don’t expect her to survive.
