In the last few hours, the US Supreme Court overturned a New York weapons regulation by ruling that Americans do have a basic right to carry firearms in public.
This involves century-old legislation in New York that basically requires you to obtain a permit in order to carry a concealed weapon, but you also need to legitimise it by providing a special reason.
This law was contested by two men, and it has now been supported by the supreme court in this ruling. It was a majority decision of six conservative members of the court, which stated that you no longer need to justify the need for a gun by a reason so, it’s a great win for pro-gun supporters.,
The Governor of new york who’s described this decision as a ‘dark day’ and then went on to say that ‘it is absolutely shocking that they have taken away our right to have reasonable restrictions.’
This law was ruled backing up the 2nd amendment which was in debate for quite a time. The officials see this ruling as another dent in the gun safety regulations and have time and again contested that a country which is already facing a huge circulation of concealed arms can not afford such rulings
