A Linear Graph can be very well be represented with the help of a straight line. In order to show the relationship between two or more quantities this graph is drawn, which illustrates the graphical representation of the interdependent effect of the quantities or variables drawn in the linear graph.

What Do You Mean By The Term ‘Linear’?

The term ‘linear’ means any straight line. Thus, a linear graph is also called a ‘straight-line graph’.  The lines are drawn on a piece of plain paper by connecting the points on the X and Y coordinates.

How Would You Define ‘Linear Graph’?

A linear Graph is a representation of a ‘straight line’ done graphically. The graph showcases or represents a linear equation which is in the form of two variables showing the linear association between the two quantifiable variables.

What Will Be the Equation For a Linear Graph?

A linear graph is a representation done graphically of a linear equation. A linear equation is an equation that can be written in the form of Ax + By = C.

Steps in Plotting Linear Equation on a Graph

We will check some steps in plotting the linear equation on a graph. The steps are as follows:

  • 1: Firstly we need to identify the two quantities which are varying.
  • 2: Now we will consider the first quantity to be ‘p’ while the second quantity to be ‘r’.
  • 3: Now we need to find out the three ordered pairs which will be in sync with the equation.
  • 4: Then present those values in the form of a table.
  • 5: Now, we will plot the points as we have jotted down in the table.
  • 6: Now join the points in the graph.

What is a Scatter Plot?

A scatterplot is also known as a scatter graph, scattergram, scatter chart or scatter diagram. This is a type of plot that illustrates a mathematical diagram using the Cartesian Coordinates. This is used to represent two variables for a set of data. While, if the points are being coded which means coloured, shaped, or sized. In this graph, one additional variable can be represented. This data is represented as the collection of points that have the value as in one variable which determines the position on the horizontal axis and which is the value of determining the positions which are present on the vertical axis.

When is a Scatter Plot Used?

A scatter plot is used when a continuous variable remains dependent under the control of the experimenter also other variables depend on the same experimenter and also when both the continuous variables are interdependent on each other.

  • Scatter Plots are mainly used when there is a need to observe and represent the relation between two or more variables.
  • The spots which are drawn on the scatter plot will not only represent the values of the individual data points but will also show the patterns which are shown when the data is taken as a whole.
  • The identification which is done with the correlated relationships is quite common with the scatter plots being plotted.

Likewise, in these cases, if we want to know the given particular value then a good prediction would be there of the vertical value. We will see the variables on the Horizontal axis and also there are variables on the vertical axis as well.

The relationships between the variables can be well described in positive, negative strong or weak, linear or non-linear forms.

Well, this was all about linear graphs and scatter plots. This study was based on graphical representation. Students must know that the graphs which will be examined carry an opportunity to score full marks, thus the students are required to skillfully practice these graphs in order to master the same.
