Kronia is a metaverse project that launched as an organisation on 12 March 2022. It set out to build a community-run platform, Kronia DAO, combining cryptocurrency, gaming, augmented and virtual reality, and real-world property under a medieval fantasy theme.
The idea: mixing the real and the virtual
Most metaverse projects focus purely on digital worlds. Kronia’s pitch was different: it proposed an “extended reality” that would link virtual experiences with real places. The project described plans for play-to-earn games, a medieval-themed virtual world, “citizenship” NFTs and even nobility titles for members.
Real-world plans
According to its announcements, Kronia DAO intended to own high-end real estate, including historic castles that would exist both physically and in the metaverse. Proposed projects included a Kronia royal castle, a Transylvania medieval theme park and an “International Institute of Vampirology”, all designed to create a fantasy-inspired tourism and entertainment experience.
Token and NFT sales
The project planned a presale of its KRON token beginning on 9 June 2022, along with the sale of citizenship NFTs that would give holders access to the community. It also published a whitepaper outlining its plans.
How the DAO was meant to work
Kronia described itself as a decentralised autonomous organisation (DAO), governed by its community through blockchain technology and smart contracts rather than by a traditional company structure. In theory, token holders would have a say in decisions about the project’s direction.
Points to consider
- Ambitious real-world plans such as buying castles require substantial funding and legal structures that are difficult for a DAO to manage.
- Many 2021–2022 metaverse and token presale projects lost most of their value or were abandoned.
