Kwame Korsah, known online as Real Korsah, is a Ghanaian artist building a name with a sound he describes as Afro Hip-Hop with touches of Afro Trap. In this profile, based on his answers to our questions, he talks about his roots, his music and what he is working on next.
From Kumasi to Accra
Korsah was born and raised in Kumasi, Ghana, where he grew up with his single mother and three siblings. He is now based in Accra, the country’s capital and the heart of its music industry.
He says he started making music because of a passion he felt deep inside, and music became the way he communicates his thoughts. “Each piece of my music tells a story,” he explains.
His Sound
Asked to describe his music, Korsah chooses two words: life and smoothness. He wants his songs to feel alive and to flow easily for the listener. Because his style differs from what many people usually hear in Ghana, listeners often compare him to international artists such as Polo G and PMB, but Korsah prefers to let fans decide. “I have never really thought I sound like anyone,” he says.
The compliment he values most is when people tell him his music is different. That encouragement, he says, pushes him to work even harder.
Live Performances
Korsah performs with a live band, and his favourite shows so far include a joint live show at Jungle Bar and the Pram Pram festival. He has also shared a stage with Ghanaian artists Kofi Mole and Flowking Stone. Festivals and concerts are where he feels most at home, and he hopes to play many more.
Latest Release and Current Focus
His most recent release at the time of our conversation was the single “Hater”. He has not yet won any awards, but he is focused on growth: recording new songs, writing fresh material, finding new inspiration and revisiting older tracks to improve them.
Friends and colleagues often tell him that his music stands apart from the crowd in Ghana and could find an audience far beyond it.
