MusicSnake, the stage name of Belarusian-American singer Fred Fedor King, made headlines in early February 2022 when he announced a new song on Twitter. The track, titled “CryptoCreep”, was planned as a song about crypto projects, although he did not reveal at first exactly which projects it would cover.
An artist with an interest in crypto
It was not the first time MusicSnake had spoken about cryptocurrency. Over the previous year, he and his team had shown growing interest in the sector, sharing crypto news across their pages and discussing market trends, price spikes and buying and selling activity, often drawing on data published by digital marketing and crypto analysis firms. “CryptoCreep” was a way to bring that interest into his music.
In his announcement tweet, he mentioned NFTs, Ethereum and Bitcoin, giving fans a strong hint about the themes of the song. He also asked followers which artist he should collaborate with on the track.
Building on a viral hit
The announcement followed the success of his single “Icy Flight”, which spread quickly on TikTok and YouTube Shorts and, according to his team, passed 10 million streams within weeks of its release. Expectations for the new song were high as a result.
The album “BY”
“CryptoCreep” was expected to appear on MusicSnake’s album BY, named after the country code for Belarus, where he was born. The project was said to feature contributions from an international team of producers whose previous credits include Future, Gucci Mane, Kevin Gates, A$AP Rocky, Kelly Clarkson, Lil Huddy, Cousin Stizz and Alyona Alyona.
The album was planned to include more than ten songs covering subjects from the immigrant experience to current affairs and crypto markets. One track was dedicated to his daughter Emily, born in 2021, whose arrival he has said changed his life for the better.
Plans for promotion
At the time of the announcement, MusicSnake had reportedly been working on the album for more than a year, with only a couple of songs left to finish. There were also reports of talks with distributors and partners, and of plans for concerts in major North American cities to support the release.
For fans of both hip-hop and the crypto world, “CryptoCreep” was an unusual crossover, and a sign of how digital finance has started to shape popular culture.
