Spoiler warning: this article discusses events from Dragon Ball Super manga chapters 63 and 64.
Dragon Ball Super Chapter 64 is one of the key chapters of the Moro arc. It follows a heartbreaking sacrifice and finally gives Goku the breakthrough he had been chasing throughout the story.
What Led Up to Chapter 64
Moro had become more powerful than ever after absorbing energy from Earth and others around him. Merus, the Galactic Patrol agent who had been training Goku, was secretly an angel in training. Angels are forbidden from directly interfering in mortal battles, but Merus chose to step in and fight Moro anyway to protect Goku and the planet. Breaking that rule came at a terrible price: Merus was erased from existence for his actions.
Chapter 64 Summary
Merus’s sacrifice becomes the emotional trigger Goku needs. Rather than fighting simply to test his own strength, Goku declares that he will now fight as a member of the Galactic Patrol, honouring what Merus taught him. Moro laughs at first, unaware of how much Goku has changed.
Goku then enters a much more complete version of Ultra Instinct. Watching from afar, Whis notes that Goku has gained real control over the technique. The rematch between Goku and Moro finally begins, with Goku now able to move and attack with a calm focus he had never fully reached before.
Meanwhile, Jaco and the other Galactic Patrol members sense that Merus’s ki has vanished, and Jaco is shaken when he realises what has happened.
Why It Matters
- It shows that Goku’s growth comes from purpose, not just training.
- It gives Merus one of the most moving exits in the Dragon Ball Super manga.
- It sets up the final stage of the battle against Moro.
