Shakhawath Hossain Fahim, better known by his stage name DJ Bijoy, is one of the most recognisable names among Bangladesh’s club DJs. From Kishoreganj, he has turned a passion for music into a profession, and he describes music as his knowledge, his meditation and his career.
How It Started
DJ Bijoy’s journey began in 2014, when he was still a college student. His love of music led him to experiment with mixing and production alongside his studies, and over the following years he built a reputation as a skilled and energetic performer.
Performing at Home and Abroad
He has played at some of Bangladesh’s best-known venues, including Sheikh Kamal International Club, Dhaka Club, Khulna Club, Sylhet Station Club and Chittagong Boat Club. He has also performed in India and Nepal, experiences he remembers fondly.
His Sound
Electronic dance music (EDM) is DJ Bijoy’s main focus, but he is comfortable across a range of styles, including trap, moombahton, dubstep, deep house, psytrance and retro. That versatility lets him read a crowd and adapt his sets to different audiences.
Plans for the Future
Asked about his future, he says music will always be at the centre of his life. “I have decided to keep working with music. I love music and want to be with music,” he explains. He also hopes to build a business of his own. While many DJs in Bangladesh have released their own albums, he has not yet done so, and it remains one of his goals.
His Advice to Aspiring DJs
DJ Bijoy believes that success as a DJ starts with a genuine, selfless love of music. Technical knowledge matters, but so do alertness, dedication and hard work. “If you dream of expanding your work and combine hard work and concentration, you will be able to establish yourself as a successful person at the end of the day,” he says.
