Many writers dream of seeing their book turned into a film or television series, but for independent authors that goal has usually felt out of reach. MindStir Media, a self-publishing company with a base in Los Angeles, announced a partnership aimed at changing that: actress and producer Tori Spelling would help bring selected MindStir titles to the screen.
Spelling is best known for playing Donna Martin in Beverly Hills, 90210. Over her career she has built up around 200 credits as an actress, writer and producer, and she is also an author and social media personality.
What Tori Spelling said
In the company’s press release, Spelling called the deal “the perfect partnership to discover amazing indie novelists” and said she was excited to develop strong novels into projects for television and streaming services. She also shared her enthusiasm on Instagram, commenting on the announcement posted by MindStir CEO J.J. Hebert and reposting it to her story.
How the partnership works
Under the arrangement, MindStir Media’s editors and Hebert decide which of the company’s books are put forward to Spelling. Authors do not pay an extra fee to be considered, but they must be published under the MindStir Media imprint.
“MindStir Media books with solid sales and strong mass appeal will be presented to Tori for consideration,” Hebert said, describing the deal as a way to give independent authors access to someone they would otherwise struggle to reach.
Hebert is an author himself, with books that have appeared on bestseller lists including USA Today, The Wall Street Journal and Amazon. He is also known as a leading book publishing consultant.
