One Punch Man began as a webcomic by the artist known as ONE and became a global hit after being redrawn by Yusuke Murata. It tells the story of Saitama, a hero who can defeat any opponent with a single punch, and who becomes bored and frustrated because no enemy can give him a real challenge. In mid-2021, the manga was in the middle of its long-running Monster Association arc, and chapter 148 was eagerly awaited.
Where the Story Stood
Chapter 147 featured huge battles between the Hero Association’s heroes and powerful monsters. Many S-Class heroes were stretched to their limits, and the fighting looked likely to continue into the next chapter. As usual, Saitama was not present at the critical moments, leaving the other heroes to face the threat alone.
What Fans Expected in Chapter 148
- More hero-versus-monster battles: the S-Class heroes would need to hold the line while the monsters pressed their advantage.
- Bigger names stepping in: fans speculated that Saitama and Blast, the top-ranked S-Class hero, could tip the balance when they finally arrived.
- Serious storytelling: despite its comedy, One Punch Man’s arcs often carry heavy themes about what it means to be a hero, and this chapter was expected to continue that tone.
Release Date
The One Punch Man manga does not follow a strict weekly schedule. New chapters are published on Shueisha’s Tonari no Young Jump website, often a couple of weeks apart. Based on reports at the time, chapter 148 was expected in late June 2021. Because the schedule is irregular, leaks and spoilers are also hard to predict.
Where to Read
You can read One Punch Man officially in English through VIZ Media, the Shonen Jump app and Shueisha’s MANGA Plus. Early leaks may appear online, but waiting for the official English version gives you the best translation and supports the creators.
