Quitting your job, travelling the world with your partner and building a digital business along the way sounds like a fantasy. For Brazilian couple Jader Domingues and Juliana Foletto, it became reality.
Leaving corporate life behind
Both now in their 30s, Jader and Juliana had stable, demanding careers. Jader worked for major companies including IBM, while Juliana was a corporate lawyer. Despite their success, both felt trapped by long working hours and too little time together. In 2016 they made a bold decision: they sold almost everything they owned and set off to travel the world.
Since then, their journey has taken them to Thailand, the Philippines, Bali, Singapore, Argentina, Chile, Turkey and Georgia, as well as across much of Brazil.
Building Grupo Big Boss
When they left, the couple had no clear plan for how to earn a living on the road. The turning point came when Juliana suggested creating a digital sales company. That idea grew into Grupo Big Boss , which operates one of Brazil’s fastest-growing digital marketing and sales platforms.
Rather than documenting every moment on social media, they chose to focus on learning the skills needed to build a reliable income. According to the couple, the business went on to generate around 4.5 million a year and, after five years, was valued at about 21 million.
They quickly realised that a nomadic lifestyle suited them. They also decided they did not want to travel as backpackers on a shoestring; they wanted to enjoy comfort and quality wherever they went.
A new project: a travel magazine for comfortable travellers
The couple’s next venture is a digital travel magazine offering curated recommendations for each destination they visit. Their guides cover practical details such as flights, airport lounges, accommodation, attractions, hidden gems, tourist traps to avoid, health insurance, co-working spaces, restaurants, gyms and pharmacies.
“This information will be presented in detailed but easy-to-read interactive infographics,” says Jader. “Our goal is to give travellers accurate, reliable information before they fly.”
They plan to partner with high-quality hotels and boutique private hostels, giving readers options for different budgets.
“What makes our approach different is that you can quickly see what to do, how many days to stay, where to go, where to sleep, what to pack and where to work, without spending hours reading blogs and watching videos,” Juliana explains.
Born out of frustration
The idea came from their own experience. Many travel resources are aimed at budget backpackers, and the couple often found themselves in disappointing accommodation or restaurants because they could not find reliable recommendations for comfortable travel. Their magazine is aimed at people who want a more polished experience, whether on holiday or living as digital nomads.
Juliana regularly shares her travels on Instagram, where she documents life as an entrepreneur following her passions. “Planning everything alone can be hard, but when a friend has already paved the way, it makes life easier,” she says. “That’s what I’m trying to do.”
