Dragon Ball Super chapter 61 arrived in the middle of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc, better known as the Moro arc. If you are coming back to the manga after a break, or only know the anime, this guide explains who Moro is, how the arc built up to chapter 61, and when the chapter was released.
Who Is Moro?
Moro is an ancient sorcerer who was imprisoned by the Galactic Patrol after draining the life energy of entire planets. Millions of years earlier, the Grand Supreme Kai sealed away his magic, but when Moro escapes prison he quickly regains his strength and begins absorbing energy again. He is a different kind of villain for Dragon Ball: not a fighter chasing a challenge, but a predator who grows stronger the more life he consumes.
How the Arc Builds Up
- Goku and Vegeta join the Galactic Patrol to help recapture Moro.
- Vegeta travels to the planet Yardrat to learn special techniques, while Goku trains with Merus, a Galactic Patrol agent with a hidden secret.
- Moro arrives on Earth with the intention of draining the planet, and the remaining Z Fighters try to hold him off.
- In chapter 60, Goku battles Moro with Ultra Instinct Sign but eventually runs out of stamina, and Vegeta returns using Instant Transmission learned from the Yardrat elder Pybara.
Chapter 61 in Brief
Chapter 61 belongs to Vegeta. Having trained on Yardrat, he faces Moro with techniques designed to deal with stolen energy, including the spirit-separating move later known as Forced Spirit Fission. The chapter showed that brute strength was not the only answer to Moro, and it gave the heroes a real advantage for the first time in the arc.
Release Date
New Dragon Ball Super chapters were released monthly at that time, around the 20th of each month alongside V Jump in Japan. Chapter 61 came out in June 2020, with the official English translation available on the same day.
Where to Read
The series is available legally in English from VIZ Media, the Shonen Jump app and Shueisha’s MANGA Plus. Official releases offer clean translations and support the creators, writer Akira Toriyama and illustrator Toyotarou.
Why the Moro Arc Stands Out
The Moro arc is often praised as one of the strongest stories in the Dragon Ball Super manga. It gave supporting characters such as Android 17, Android 18 and Piccolo meaningful moments, introduced new lore about the Galactic Patrol, and showed Goku and Vegeta growing in very different ways.
