Spoiler warning: this article discusses Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime episode 166.
The Boruto anime’s anime-original arc in 2020 introduced Deepa, one of Kara’s Inners, as a new and frightening opponent for Team 7. In Boruto Chapter 166 of the anime (episode 166), Deepa finally showed exactly why he seemed impossible to beat.
Deepa’s Ability Explained
Deepa can manipulate the carbon in his own body, tightening its molecular bonds to make his body incredibly hard, almost like stone or diamond. This gives him natural armour that can shrug off powerful attacks. During the battle, even Boruto’s strongest Rasengan failed to leave a scratch.
Earlier, when Deepa clashed with Omoi’s group, he seemed able to keep up with his enemies without much effort. Episode 166 explained why: his hardened body allowed him to absorb hits while waiting for the right moment to strike back.
Team 7’s Defeat
Boruto and Sarada were overwhelmed. Their teamwork, which had helped them in many past missions, was not enough against Deepa’s raw durability and strength. Mitsuki stepped in with his Snake Sage abilities to rescue them, but the mission ended in failure as Kara obtained the Hashirama cells.
Why Deepa Matters
- He showed how big the gap was between Team 7 and Kara’s Inners.
- His appearance pushed Boruto and Sarada to train harder, setting up their growth.
- As an anime-original addition, he helped build up Kara before the manga’s major battles were adapted.
What Fans Thought
Many viewers were impressed by the animation and the sense of danger in the episode, while others debated how anime-original characters like Deepa fit alongside the manga’s version of Kara. Either way, the episode made Kara feel like a serious threat.
Where to Watch
Episode 166 aired in Japan in September 2020. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is available to stream legally on Crunchyroll in many regions.
